UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

The Undergraduate Program of the Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering consists of 5 years, 1 of which is the English prep school and 4 of which is the formal undergraduate education. The 4 year education is divided into 8 semesters. The students are required to complete a 30-day-general-internship and a 30-day-vocational- internship studies after the 4th semester. The graduates of the program obtain “Electronics and Communications Engineering Bachelor’s Degree”.

The admissions to the program are done according to LYS MF-4 exam results conducted by OSYM.

The preference rate of the department has been very high according to the maximum points and percentile of the students who preferred the department. Our department has been the most preferred department country-wide in its area for the last four years.

The students are accepted through intra- and inter-university transfers and double major transfers. These transfers are determined by taking into account the recommendation of the University and the approval of the YOK (Higher Education Institution in Turkey). There are no minor procedures in our program.

Our external stakeholders, some of which are Alcatel-Lucent, Netaş and Bircom, hold professional education certificate programs using our facilities and infrastructure, providing career development opportunities. The “Career Days” activities are held each year with the participation of the company representatives working in a wide range of industrial areas for career planning of the students by student clubs. There are several similar organizations such as “ILTEK Days” which has been held since 2006 and “RLC Days” which has been held for eight years.

Assessment of the success of our students is calculated in accordance with the guidelines set forth at Yıldız Technical University Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations.

In accordance with the Education and Examination Regulation of the University, a minimum of two midterm exams and a final exam must be performed for each theoretical course. In addition, depending on the course content and the Instructor, additional obligations can be set such as homework, projects, seminars, research reports. The grading of these additional obligations, provided they are to be announced at the beginning of the term and to be stated in the course suggestion form, is determined by Instructor. The final grade consists of 60% of the midseason exams and other obligations and 40% of the final exam.  The final grades are obtained through a relative grading scale awarding A(4.0) to the most successful and F(0.0) to the least successful student. Students who do not fulfill the compulsory attendance of 70% are given the grade F0(-1.0).

144 credits of course work (3 credits Required Basic Culture, 3 Credits Elective Engineering Courses, 1 no-credit Free Elective course, 3 Credits University Elective Courses, a total of 111 Credits of required courses and 24 credits of Elective Group Courses) should be completed to graduate. Student Automation System checks these obligations. Then the grade of the Graduation Project is checked among the students who fulfill the credit requirement. Next, Grade Point Averages (AGNO) of the students who pass the Graduation Project are checked. To qualify students to receive a diploma, their Grade Point Averages should be at least 2.0 out of 4. The students have the right to choose one of the Electronics and Telecommunications subdivisions according to their career plans at the end of the 6th semester and take the proper courses from the course pools of the subdivisions. Each student has the right to choose a maximum of two courses from the other subdivision. The students are also required to complete a 30-day-general and a 30-day-vocational internship studies. The graduation process of the graduating students is carried out by the Department of Student Affairs (http://ogi.yildiz.edu.tr).
